A Festive Card-Climbing Battle for 4 Players

The Forge holiday tradition continues — and this year, we’ve taken things to an entirely new level. 🧑‍🎄

After three seasons of cozy single-player games (Holiday Solitaire, Dungeon Solitaire, and Spider Solitaire), we’re thrilled to unwrap our first-ever multiplayer holiday experience. Gather your friends, shuffle the deck, and prepare for a delightful mix of strategy, mischief, and cheerful chaos. 🃏

Welcome to Naughty & Nice — a festive Forge twist on the classic social card game President.

Whether you’re here for friendly competition, bragging rights, or just the joy of holiday gaming with others, this year’s gift is all about bringing the community together. 💚

🎁 Climb the Holiday Ladder

Each match of Naughty & Nice ends by assigning one of four holiday “roles,” based on the order in which players empty their hands:

🎅 Santa — the star on top of the tree
🧝 Elf — reliable helper, second to finish
💰 Scrooge — third place, full of grumbles
😠 Grump — last one standing, bottom of the Naughty List
(We know what you’re thinking — “Grinch” feels perfect. Legal said nope. We listened.)

These roles carry forward into the next round, and here’s where the mischief begins.

• Santa receives the Grump’s best card, and gives away their lowest (usually).
• Elf and Scrooge don’t trade anything — they simply keep their hands and try to climb (or avoid sliding!) in the next round.

It’s a small but devious mechanic that keeps every match spicy — and yes, revenge is absolutely part of the holiday spirit. 😈

🂡 How the Game Works

Naughty & Nice follows the core concepts of President, with smooth, Forge-polished rules:

🎯 The Goal

Just like the classic game, your mission is simple: Be the first player to clear your hand! Do that, and you earn the top holiday role.

🃏 Dealing

All cards from a standard deck are dealt to four players.

• 2s are the highest value cards
• Aces are the second-highest value cards

🔁 Turn Flow

• The starting player may play 1 to 4 cards of the same rank.
• The turns move clockwise.
• To beat the current play, you must play the same number of cards, but of a higher rank. (If someone starts with two 6s, you must play two cards higher than 6, and so on.)
• Can’t (or don’t want to) beat the current play?
  → Pass.

▶️ Resets

A reset happens when a player plays four of a kind (you do not need to play them all together).
This clears the table and gives that player the lead again.

🔚 End of Round

As soon as one person runs out of cards, they’re “out,” and the others keep going until all finishing positions are settled.

• Santa (1st): 5 points
• Elf (2nd): 3 points
• Scrooge (3rd): 2 points
• Grump (4th): 1 point

To celebrate the launch of Naughty & Nice, we’re hosting our biggest holiday challenge yet — one that rewards participation, continuity, and a little bit of storytelling.

Instead of a one-and-done submission, we’re inviting players to collect their role badges as they play. Every match gives you a result: Santa, Elf, Scrooge, or Grump.

You can submit any kind of run:

• Your rise, Grump ➜ Santa
• A perfectly consistent streak of Elves
• A chaotic zigzag of roles
• A legendary Santa spree
• Or the funniest, most dramatic sequence you experienced

We’ll be awarding winners across multiple fun categories, each judged by The Forge team:

📬 How to Participate

It’s simple:

1. Play Naughty & Nice anytime between now and January 31st.
2. Collect your role results from your matches.
3. Screenshot or export your sequence (whatever works best).
4. Post it in The Forge Discord, in the # giveaways-and-contest channel.
